The Fear Cage
We were asked in by a client who's family was being tormented by what they believed to be malicious entities. Find out the suprising truth we discovered during our investigation
BACKGROUND: Six people live in this townhouse three girls, two boys and their mother. The two eldest daughters and the mother experienced most of the activity. The family has lived there for almost twelve years. The activity started 2 1/2 years ago, this was around the same time that the apartment had been remodeled. Since they had called in several paranormal groups, a priest and others who the mother thought could offer help. The second oldest daughter (13) started with fainting spells around the same time that the activity began. The mother (Andrea) is unsure as to whether this coincidence or not. Light bulbs blow out constantly and they hear doors opening and closing, see apparitions of a man on the stairs, and a little boy with a gruesomely hacked up face, there is also a little girl who appears although the family says she seems pleasant.During the interview with Andrea, she did disclose that people in her family did practice Voodoo and that curses were common. She feared that some of her family members had put some form of negative magic on her. She herself performs protective rituals to help try to cleanse the house or break any hex that is thrown her way and it would work for a day or two but then it would kick up again. One paranormal group who had gone in there had set up their DVR system and something had happened which caused it to melt on the inside (we have had no luck getting in touch with that particular group to get their take on the case).
Investigators : Katie Boyd (demonologist/occult sciences expert), Beckah Boyd (psychic medium/tech), Lorrie Gibson (investigator)
The Investigation : Started at 6:30 p.m. Sept 9, 09. We first took base readings around the home including temperature, and EMF. We used a K-II, standard EMF gauge, a dual temperature IR thermometer (average temperature was 72.4F) and the MEL Meter. Base readings showed a reading of 3.2mG in Daughters Room #2 (as pictured), 3.8mG in the Boy's Bedroom, 3.4 mG in Daughter's Room #1 and a 5.8mG in the mother's room. The bathroom and kitchen were clear of EMF except around appliances where it registered slightly. The living room was equally hot. The only place that was a hot spot that did not register EMF was the staircase. We then began the process of discerning the actual effect of the field. How far out did it go? Was it high all throughout the whole room? Or only so far? The exposure in the mother's room seemed to center on the bed however, it expanded out to cover almost the whole of the room itself.
The kids rooms however the EMF seemed to permeate the entire room and the hallway connecting them which led to the staircase where the man had been seen. When we talked to the mother regarding what we had found she seemed both relieved and unsurprised. "A water line runs underneath the house, but also when they did the renovation, the electrician cut a piece of the wiring that supposedly helped to regulate the voltage. He then jimmied it back together. Since that day is when we started having the problems."
Beckah (psychic medium) did pick up on a spirit however, it was the spirit of the client's father. Beckah took the time after the investigation to relay some personal messages to the client.
When reviewing the evidence there were no EVP or Photographic, we are still going over video footage.
The client has since requested to be moved to another unit in her townhouse and is taking her new EMF detector with her.
What is EMF?
EMF (electro-magnetic field) is part and parcel with any piece of electronic equipment. Each item gives off varying EMF. However, in our modern age where everything is run on electricity we must be more aware of EMF than ever. Electromagnetic fields are invisible to the naked eye, they are created by the electrical charge. The fields given off by electrical equipment are considered to be ELF (Extremely Low Fields). Electric currents flowing deep within the earth give off EMF as well. But the earth, well that is a natural source.
What Level of EMF is Considered Safe?
Ambient EMF is considered to 0.5 and below. The highest safe level is considered to 1.0 mG (milliGauss) in most countries and the EPA saying 3.0mG is the cutoff point. There have been many epidemiological (human health) studies, which have shown the negative effects of EMF on babies and adults alike.
There is still an ongoing debate as to exactly what levels of EMF are safe however to give you an idea of the possible risks involved in high EMF levels, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) actually wanted to label EMF as a Carcinogen. In a draft report in 1990, they proposed to place EMF in same ranks as Formaldehyde, DDT. However, in their final draft they decided, that even though they found significant evidence to prove that EMF can be dangerous, that they could not classify it as a Class B Carcinogen because more studies needed to be done.
Possible Side Effects of Prolonged Exposure to High EMF:
Some of the most common side effects of EMF exposure are visual and auditory hallucinations, dizzy spells, headaches and it can heighten your bodies "fight or flight" responses. Some studies have shown that High EMF for prolonged periods may actually cause cancer and other equally life threatening illnesses although scientists have yet to agree and are still debating.
There is a condition called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity. To explain it here is a quote from the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (ES) is a physiological disorder characterized by symptoms directly brought on by exposure to electromagnetic fields. It produces neurological and allergic-type symptoms. Symptoms may include, but are not limited to, headache, eye irritation, dizziness, nausea, skin rash, facial swelling, weakness, fatigue, pain in joints and/or muscles, buzzing/ringing in ears, skin numbness, abdominal pressure and pain, breathing difficulty, and irregular heartbeat. Those affected persons may experience an abrupt onset of symptoms following exposure to a new EMF such as fields associated with a new computer or with new fluorescent lights, or a new home or work environment. ~ National Association of Certified Home Inspectors
What Constitutes a Fear Cage
In Andrea's case, the fear cage was her entire home. This is actually rare and was due to a renovation mishap. Typically, a fear cage is consolidated to one room or area and this will usually be where all of the believed "phenomena" takes place. One way to know is if you have a psychic medium or sensitive on staff. They are usually EMF sensitive and so they may feel an intense fear or jumpiness that is fairly consistent. Unlike with spirits which can be off and on, and most mediums can identify.
Is Your Space A Fear Cage?
When taking meter readings around the home when you get a strong signal move backwards. When the signal fades to 0 the place a marker. This is the end point of the EMF field. Now outline the area in this same way. This will give you an idea of how many areas are affected by EMF. Such as in the case of the FEARCAGE all areas except for the kitchen and bathrooms were all affected with readings of 3.8mG and above.
